Danbury Travel Guide
Welcome to Danbury!
From the 1800s to the 1950s, Danbury was known as the Hat City of the World, since it manufactured the largest annual amount of fur hats in the United States. Although the hat industry is no longer booming, the city remains a bustling center that is home to Western Connecticut State University, as well as a number of museums, various shops and an annual festival. The area's history is commemorated at the Danbury Museum, which houses the John Dodd Hat Shop and other historic buildings and artifacts, and the Military Museum of Southern New England, known for its 10,000 notable objects, life-size dioramas and tanks. Shopper's appreciate the Danbury Fair Mall, which features over 170 stores and eateries. Every September, Danbury comes alive during A Taste of Danbury, a festival that features entertainment, fine food and a juried arts show.
